1. suggest:启发,使人想起,暗示
If one thing suggests another, it implies it or makes you
think that it might be the case.
例:
The old picture suggests me the past I never forgot.
这个旧照片让我想起那段我无法忘记的过去。
He suggested that is a plot or bait, but not an opportunity.
他认为这是一个阴谋或者是诱饵,而不是一次机遇。
The last report suggested the place and time of the next meeting.

2. imply:隐含,暗示
If you imply that something is the case, you
say something that indicates that it is the case in an indirect way.
例:
The exports in June rose 1.5%, implying that the economy was
stronger than many investors had realized.
6月份的出口额增加了1.5%,这意味着经济必须多投资者所了解的要强劲。
I thought I never implied you can do anything unethical.
我认为我从没有暗示过你可以去做一些违背良心的事。
The market of this kind of product is pretty well, which
implies more fierce competition.

3. intimate:暗示,通知,宣布
If you intimate something, you say it in an indirect way.
例:
The phenomenon in picture is just a social microcosm, but it
intimates the worst problem that should draws all attention.
这张照片中的现象只是一个社会缩影,但是却暗示了值得所有人关注的最糟糕的问题。
What did he intimate in his words just now?
他刚刚的话中暗示的是什么?
He looked at me. I know that intimate me leaving.

4. insinuate:暗示,暗讽,说含沙射影的话
If you say that someone insinuates that something bad is the
case, you mean that they say it in an indirect way.
例:
Her article insinuates
it is likely that the official was alleged embezzlement.
她的文章中暗示,那个官员可能涉嫌贪污。
What made him anger was that she insinuates
about his personality.
对于她的那些关于他人格的含沙射影的话,让他很生气。
The words sound like compliment, but in
fact, it insinuates unhealthy practices in society at present.
