1. sale: a time when a shop sells things more cheaply than usual 打折,特价

例:

There's going to be a sale at Macy's next week.(下周Macy’s百货有特价。)

Julie bought her jacket at a sale for twenty dollars.(打折时,朱莉花$20买了那件夹克。)

The bookstore across the street is having a sale.(对面街的书店正在搞特价。)

 

2. on sale/in the sales: something that is on sale is being sold at a specially low price in a shop 某样商品正在打折

注意:''on sale'':美式英语的说法;''in the sales'':英式英语的说法。

例:

"How much was your jacket?'' "I got it on sale in Montgomery Wards. It only cost $45.''

-你这夹克多少钱买的?  -我在MW商场打折时买的,才$45。)

His suit was bought in the sales for £100.(他这外套打折时买的,£100。)

I need a new pair of shoes but I want to wait until they go on sale.(我该买双新鞋了,但想等到打折再买。)

 

3. reduced: goods that are reduced are being sold at a lower price than usual 减价

例:

Everything is reduced because the store's closing down next month.(店下个月就要关门了,所有东西都大减价。)

The CDs were reduced from $10 to $5.CD原价$10,现价$5。)

 

4. £1/$20/10% etc. off: if there is £1, $20, 10% etc. off something, its usual price has been reduced by that amount 减了多少的价

注意:off前面的数字或百分比表示减去的那部分金额,并非折后的价格,比如10% off即是说一件商品降10%的价,用中国的计数方法就是“打九折”,而不是“打一折”。

例:

20% off all computers in Dixon's summer saleDixon夏季特价 所有电脑8折出售。)

We got $10 off the chair because it had a small mark on it.(椅子上有点瑕疵,所以便宜$10卖给我们。)

 

5. discount: a reduction in the price you pay for something, which is given for a special reason 因某种原因而给出的折扣

例:

get a discount =pay less 获得折扣

You’ll get a discount if you pay in cash.(现金支付可以打折。)

discount on 可以折扣价购买某类商品

Workers at the store get a discount on books.(书店员工买书可打折。)

6. special offer: a very low price that a shop sells something for, in order to persuade more people to buy things there特价促销

例:

They've got a special offer for seniors -- five nights for the price of three.(老年人住酒店有特价,住5晚只需3晚的价格。)

Take advantage of our special offer between now and Oct 30th this year.(特价至今年1030日,机不可失!)

 

7. cut-price: cut-price goods or services are sold at prices that are much lower than the usual price, either because they have been specially reduced or because they are being sold by someone who always sells things cheaply低价的

例:

Fruit is fairly inexpensive in Japan because they buy cut-price oranges and apples from South Africa.(日本水果很便宜,因为他们从南非低价进口橙子和苹果。)

 

8. be going cheap: if something is going cheap , it is being sold more cheaply than usual (口语)打折,降价

例:

If they have any bicycle lamps going cheap, can you get me one? (如果你有便宜的自行车灯,给我一个好吗?)

Have a look in the travel agent's and see if there are any flights to Toronto going cheap. (去旅行社看看飞多伦多的航班有没有打折。)

 

9. special: a product that is sold at a low price for a short time -- used especially about food, drink, or meals特价食物、特价饮料、特价餐等

例:

Today's lunch special is smoked salmon with rice.今天的特价午餐是熏三文鱼配米饭。
