“炒鱿鱼”英文怎么说?(第一部分)

在现实生活中,求职、就业、离职都是人生常事。今天阿卡索就来教大家“炒鱿鱼”“解雇”用英语怎么说。

1. lose one's job :失业

例:

After she lost her job, she got more and more depressed and started drinking heavily. (她失业后,变得越来越消沉,开始大量饮酒。)

Many people won't complain about pay and conditions because they're terrified of losing their jobs. (很多人不会抱怨工资低、工作条件差,因为他们害怕失业。)

 

2. fire : to make someone leave their job, especially because they have done something wrong 开除(尤指犯错的员工)

备注: ''fire'' 是美式英语中较口语化的用法。

例:

You're fired! (你被开除了!)

She has to fire several workers. (她不得不开除几名工人。)

He was just impossible to work with, and in the end they fired him. (他难以合作,后来就被炒鱿鱼了。)

She was fired for serious professional misconduct. (她因为严重失职,被炒了鱿鱼。)

He didn't want to get fired. (他不想被炒鱿鱼。)

The airline fired him for being drunk. (他因为醉酒,被航空公司开除了。)

When Max was fired from his job the whole family had to pack up and leave the town. (马克思被炒鱿鱼后,他全家就得收拾行李离开小镇了。)

 

3. sack somebody/give somebody the sack : to make someone leave their job, for example, because they are not good enough at it, they are no longer needed, or they have done something wrong 解雇(因为某人能力不足、公司不再需要其或者其犯下错误)

备注: ''sack somebody/give somebody the sack'' 是英式英语中较口语化的用法。

例:

They couldn't sack me—I'd done nothing wrong. (他们不能解雇我!我没做什么错事!)

They sacked her for always being late. (因为老迟到,她被炒鱿鱼了。)

He was sacked from every other job he had. (他之前干过的每个工作都炒了他的鱿鱼。)

He was sacked for being drunk in the office. (因为在办公室喝醉酒,他被炒鱿鱼了。)

We can't really give him the sack just because he's unpopular. (我们不能因为大家不喜欢他,就把他开除。)

get the sack (=be sacked):

She got the sack for always being late. (因为老迟到,她被炒鱿鱼了。)

He had the good luck to work in an old family firm where nobody ever got the sack. (他有幸在一家老牌家族企业上班,公司从未解雇过人。)

 

4. dismiss : to officially make someone leave a job 正式通知某人离职

备注:美式英语日常口语中,“炒鱿鱼”一般用 ''fire'' ;英式英语日常口语中,“炒鱿鱼”一般用 ''sack'' ''dismiss'' 是正式的说法,在日常口语中较少用。

例:

He was dismissed from his job. (他被开除了。)

Bryant was unfairly dismissed from his post. (布莱尔被开除得很冤枉。)

Harris was caught stealing, and was dismissed immediately. (哈里斯偷东西被抓到,立马被开除了。)

A New York art teacher who refused to take part in the daily flag ceremony was dismissed from her post. (纽约有一个美术老师因为拒绝参加每日升旗仪式而被开除。)

 

5. give somebody (their) notice : to tell someone that they must leave their job, either immediately or in a week, a month etc. (提前)通知某人离职

例:

The company is planning to close down, and we've all been given two weeks' notice. (公司要倒闭了,给我们两个星期时间准备离职。)

In the course of restructuring, over half the workforce were given their notice. (因为结构调整,超过半数的员工都被通知离职。)
