“害怕”英语怎么说(第一部分)

世界上有很多东西会让我们感到害怕。我们来看看英文怎么表达这个意思。

1. frighten:

例:

Does the thought of death frighten you?(想到死亡,你怕吗?)

Take that silly mask off - you're frightening the children.(把那个奇怪的面具摘下来,你吓到孩子们了。)

it frightens somebody to know/think etc.

It frightens me to know that the rapist still hasn't been caught.(听说那个强奸犯还没落网,我很害怕。)

frighten somebody into doing something (=make someone do something by frightening them) Their lawyers tried to frighten us into signing the contract.(他们的律师想胁迫我们签合同。)

They frightened the boy into confessing his crime.(他们恐吓那孩子,逼他认罪。)

The insurance agent tried to frighten her into buying the most expensive flood insurance.(保险推销员想吓唬她,好让她买下最贵的洪水意外险。)

frighten somebody off/frighten off somebody (=frighten someone so that they go away or stop trying to do something)

The man pulled out a gun and managed to frighten off his attackers.(那人拔出枪,成功吓走了围攻他的人。)

Bad economic news has frightened people out of putting their money in the stock market.(经济不景气,吓得人们不敢炒股了。)

 

使人非常害怕:to make someone feel very frightened

frighten somebody to death

The story nearly frightened me to death.(这个故事快把我吓死了。)

frighten the life out of somebody

Why do you creep up on me like that? You frightened the life out of me!(你干嘛那样从背后吓我?!我吓得我心脏都快停了!)

frighten somebody out of their wits

I was frightened out of my wits at the very idea.(这个想法让我感到太害怕了。)

frighten the (living) daylights out of somebody

Kate spun round to see Tom standing behind her. "You frightened the daylights out of me!" she gasped. "I never heard you come in."(凯特一回头,看见汤姆就站在她身后。凯特倒吸一口凉气,说:“你吓死我了!我没听见你进来的声音。”)

 

2. scare: to make someone feel frightened, especially by making them think something very unpleasant might happen

备注:"scare"常用于口语中。

例:

He was driving fast just to scare us.(他开车开那么快,纯粹是要吓唬坐在车上的我们。)

We're not really going to get arrested - I think the police are trying to scare us.(警察并非真的要抓我们,我觉得他们就是吓唬吓唬。)

it scares somebody to know/think etc.

It scared him to think that his mother might never recover.(想到妈妈可能永远都好不了了,他很害怕。)

scare away/off

Tourists have been scared off by the recent violence in the city.(最近这个城市暴力事件频发,游客都不敢来了。)

She finally found a man who is not scared away by the fact that she is a single mother raising two children.(她最终找到一个好男人不嫌弃她是个单身妈妈还带着两个孩子。)

 

使人非常害怕:to make someone feel very frightened

scare somebody to death

You nearly scared me to death.(你快把我吓死了。)

scare the hell out of somebody(备注:''scare the hell out of somebody''较口语化)

She scared the hell out of me when she said she had to go into hospital.(她说她得上医院,真吓死我了。)

scare the (living) daylights out of somebody

Don't creep up on me like that! You scared the living daylights out of me!(别那样从后面吓我!我快被你吓死了!)
