1. 出大汗

（1）最普通的说法就是：sweat a lot

例：

I was sweating a lot despite the air conditioning.（即便有空调，我还是出了很多汗。）

（2）sweat heavily/profusely

例：

Within minutes she was sweating profusely. （她瞬间就流了好多汗。）

（3）sweat like a pig

例：

You're sweating like a pig.（你满头大汗。）

（4）sweat buckets

例：

After working in the field all day, I was sweating buckets.（在地里干了一天的活儿，我流了好多汗。）

思考：“像猪一样流汗”、“流了几桶汗”，英译中都好说，但要用英文表达“流了好多汗”这个意思时，你们能想起“猪”和“桶”吗？

2. 拼命工作

（1）They sweated and saved for ten years to buy a house.（他们拼命工作，存了10年钱，买了套房子。）

The committee spent months sweating over the new budget.（委员会为新预算忙了几个月。）

（2）sweat blood/sweat your guts out

I sweated blood to get the report finished.（我拼命赶报告，终于赶完了。）

We've been sweating our guts out here! （我们已经拼命了！）

备注：拼命到“流血汗”、成“汗血宝马”，那是够努力了。

3.  发愁、紧张

（1）Let them sweat a bit before you tell them.（先别告诉他们，让他们紧张一会。）

（2）sweat bullets

例：

Workers are sweating bullets over the possibility of job losses.（可能会失业，工人们都发愁死了。）

We were sweating bullets until we found out we wouldn't lose our jobs.（在确定不会失业之前，我们都好紧张。）

4. Don't sweat it. 不用发愁

这是美式英语的口语表达。例：

Don't sweat it—you'll pass the test, no problem. （别怕，考试能过，没问题的。）

5. Don't sweat the small stuff. 别为芝麻小事发愁

这是美式英语的口语表达used to tell someone not to worry about unimportant things

6. No sweat. 小意思；做某事毫不费劲

这是美式英语的口语表达。例：

I'll finish it by tomorrow, no sweat. （我明天就可以完成，小意思。）

7. a (cold) sweat：紧张、害怕

用于形容紧张/害怕得出冷汗的样子。例：

I woke up from the nightmare in a cold sweat. （我做了个噩梦，吓醒了。）

Do not get into such a sweat about it！It's only a test.（别这么紧张，只是个测验。）

备注：''in a cold sweat''与中文的“出冷汗”有异曲同工之妙，在例1“做噩梦”时，也可以翻译成“出冷汗”，但例2中就不好这么翻译了。

8. work up a sweat: 工作或运动很努力，都出汗了

例：

Can you bring us a drink? We're working up a sweat out here.（给我们带点饮料回来吧，我们在这挥汗如雨的。）

9. sweat：把食物放在少量水或油中慢慢加热

这是英式英语的说法。例：

Sweat the vegetables until the juices run out.（用小火把蔬菜慢慢加热，直到汤汁收干。）
