“多虑”英语怎么说

先来看一段美剧《老爸老妈浪漫史》S01E08节选:

Barney:(to Ted) They’re edging you out.

Ted: No, they’re not edging me out. He’s my best friend.

Barney: Just keep your eyes open. That’s all I’m saying. Little things are gonna be changing around that apartment.

Robin:(to Barney) Come on, Barney. You’re just being paranoid.

Ted:

JULIE: Ross is so crazy about you, and I really wanted you to like me, and, it's probably me just being totally paranoid, but I kind of got the feeling that maybe you don't.Ross非常喜欢你,我也真心希望你能喜欢我,可能是我多虑了,但我隐约觉得你讨厌我。)

1. paranoid: someone who is paranoid is worried all the time that people do not like them, that bad things are going to happen to them etc., when this is not true原意是“过分猜疑的;妄想的”,形容一个人“多虑”,总担心别人不喜欢他,有不好的事要发生,等等。

例:

I was so paranoid at one point that I was refusing to answer the door.(我一时太多疑,没去开门。)

The mysterious phone calls were beginning to make him feel paranoid.(神秘电话开始让他疑神疑鬼。)

By 1982, he was so paranoid about his health that he wore plastic gloves at all times.(他总过分担心健康问题,所以到1982年他都一直带着塑料手套。)

2. have a lot on your mind: to have a lot of problems to worry about, especially when this means that you do not concentrate on other things

Since the divorce, Linda's had a lot on her mind.(离婚后,琳达心事重重,无暇他顾。)

I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention; I have a lot on my mind at the moment.(不好意思,我刚才走神了,想心事了。)

3. stressed out: so worried and tired from problems you have to deal with continuously that you cannot relax

I always eat when I'm feeling stressed out.(我感到焦虑时,就不停地吃。)

By the end of the tour, the band was totally stressed out.(巡回演出结束,整个乐队都心力交瘁了。)

One of my adult students was a stressed-out mother.(我的成年学生中,有一个是天天担心子女的母亲。)

I'm trying to have a few early nights because I'm feeling stressed out at the moment.(这几天我得早睡,因为事情太多,有点身心俱疲了。)

4. preoccupied: worrying so much about a particular problem that you cannot think about anything else

What's wrong with Cindy? She seems a little preoccupied.(辛迪怎么了?

He's completely preoccupied with all the wedding preparations at the moment.(他这会正全身心地筹备婚礼,无暇他顾。)
