1be brave enough to do something:

例:

None of the other people were brave enough to stand up to him.(其他人根本不敢站到他面前。)

Maybe if you were brave enough to ask her out, she'd go to a movie with you.(你要是敢约她,说不定她真和你去看电影了。)

2have the courage to do something:

例:

He did not have the courage to tell Nicola there was something wrong in the business.(他不敢告诉尼古拉生意上有问题。)

2. dare to: to be brave enough to do something that is risky or that you are afraid to do - used especially in questions, negatives, and sentences beginning with ''if'' :表示“敢做某事”,常用在疑问句、否定句、或if开头的条件句

例:

''I'll tell Dad.''  ''You wouldn't dare to!''-我要告诉爸爸。

My sister used to steal things from stores, but I would never dare to.(我姐姐在店里偷过东西,我可不敢偷。)

No one dared to go into the old house at night.(晚上没人敢进那个老房子。)

No wonder the party did not dare to publish that document.

Dare we take this decision without consulting the Prime Minister?

3. have the guts to do something: have the courage to do something

I know he made a mistake, but at least he had the guts to admit it!

Sarah is the only one who has the guts to speak her mind.(莎拉是唯一一个敢直言不讳的人。)

4. have the nerve to do something: to be calm and confident enough to do something that is frightening or dangerous

例:

Not many people have the nerve to stand up and speak in front of a large audience.(敢在这么多人面前演说的人可没几个。)

She lets me do all the work, and then she has the nerve to criticize my cooking.(她什么活都让我干,还胆敢批评我的厨艺。)

I can't believe he has the nerve to show up at the party after what he said about Janet.(他之前那样说Janet,现在竟然还有脸来参加派对。)

备注:在有的语境下,''have the nerve to do something''可以翻译成“还真有脸做某事”,如后两个例子。

5. find/ get up/ pluck up/ summon up the courage to do something: to force yourself to be brave and do something that you are afraid of doing, after thinking about it for a long time:表示“经过长时间的思考,终于鼓起勇气

例:

David loves Julie but he can't get up enough courage to ask her to marry him.(戴维爱着朱莉,但是他始终鼓不起勇气向她求婚。)

I eventually plucked up the courage to tell my parents that I was going to go and live in Canada.(我考虑了很久,终于鼓起勇气告诉爸妈我要去加拿大定居了。)

Ruth took a deep breath, summoned up her courage, and told him the truth.Ruth
