如何用英语形容偏僻的地方

2014-10-08 11:30阿卡索英语

1. in the middle of nowhere: in a lonely place a long way from towns or villages, where you do not expect to find any houses

备注:类似用法还有''miles from anywhere'', ''miles from nowhere''

例:

Amazingly, we found a really nice motel in the middle of nowhere.(难以置信,我们在远离人烟的地方找到了一家很好的汽车旅馆。)

We got lost in the middle of nowhere.(我们在渺无人烟的地方迷路了。)

We were miles from anywhere and had no idea how to get back.(我们到了远离人烟的地方,而且不知道该怎么回去。)

They live miles from nowhere.(他们住的非常偏。)

2. in the boondocks/boonies: in a part of the country that is a long way from any town

备注:''the boondocks/boonies''原意是''an area that is not close to any towns or cities'',这是美式英语口语的用法。

例:

I'm not moving to that place - it's out in the boondocks.(我不搬去那里,那里太偏了。)

He lives out in the boonies - it would take at least an hour to get there.(他住的非常偏,要花至少一个小时才能到那。)

She grew up in the boondocks so city life came as a real shock to her.(她小时候住在偏僻的乡村,所以城市生活让她很震惊。)

The school is way out in the boonies.(这个学校很偏。)

3. out of the way: fairly far away from any town or from where other people live, and a little difficult to find and travel to

例:

The house is a little out of the way, but you should be able to find it.(这个房子有点儿偏,但你应该可以找到。)

They rented a cottage that was quiet and out of the way.(他们在偏僻安静的地方租了一个小房子。)

It's a great little pub, but a bit out of the way.(这个小酒吧很不错,就是位置有点偏。)

备注:''out of the way''一般放在系动词后面做表语;如果要放在名词前面,则要用''out-of-the-way''

如:

out-of-the-way restaurants(偏僻的餐馆)

an out-of-the-way spot for picnic(享用野餐的僻静之处)

We had dinner at this little out-of-the-way place.(我们在这个有点儿偏僻的地方吃了午餐。)

4. way out: a long way from where you are now or far away from the nearest town

例:

way out in/past/beyond etc.

I live way out in the country.(我住在很远的乡下。)

We drove way out past the town.(我们的车已经离城镇很远了。)

5. remote: remote places are far away from other places or people, and very few people go there

备注:remote是形容词,用于名词前或动词后

例:

They moved to a remote farmhouse in North Wales.(他们搬到威尔士北部一个偏远的农场居住。)

The helicopter crashed in a remote desert area.(直升机坠毁在偏远的沙漠地区。)

6. off the beaten track: a place that is off the beaten track or path is a long way from the places where people usually go, which usually makes it more interesting to visit

备注:美式英语常作''off the beaten path''

例:

The little restaurant was so far off the beaten track that we almost didn't find it.(这个小餐馆太偏了,我们差点没找到。)

The restaurant is a little off the beaten track, so it won't be crowded.(这个餐馆位置有点偏,所以一定不挤。)

He likes to get off the beaten path and discover places that other tourists don't find.(他喜欢发掘新大陆,去找其他游客找不到的地方。)
