“不喜欢”在英语里的表达方式

上一讲 我们学习了如何用英语表达“喜欢”。那么,如果是不喜欢一样东西,不喜欢一个人,除了用 ''don't like'' ,英文里还能怎么表达?我们来看看。

 

1. dislike: to think someone or something is very unpleasant

备注:''dislike''通常用于书面语。

例:

He was a quiet man who disliked social occasions.(他很文静,不喜欢社交场合。)

She disliked Paul intensely.(她很不喜欢保罗。)

She now seriously disliked her former friend.(现在,她很不喜欢过去的那些朋友。)

I dislike having to get up so early in the morning.(我不喜欢早上这么早起床。)

 

2. don't think much of something/somebody: to think that something is not very good or that someone is not very good at something

备注:''don't think much of...''通常用于口语中。

例:

You don't think much of Carol, do you?(你不怎么喜欢卡罗,是吗?)

The hotel was okay, though I didn't think much of the food.(酒店还行,但我不怎么喜欢那儿的伙食。)

I don't think much of The Beatles, to be quite honest.(老实说,我不怎么喜欢披头士乐队。)

 

3. not be very keen on something/not be very fond of something: to not like something, although you do not think it is very bad or very unpleasant

备注:''not be very keen on something/not be very fond of something''通常用于英式英语中。

例:

Actually, I'm not very keen on modern art.(说实在的,我不怎么喜欢现代艺术。)

George had never been particularly fond of small children.(乔治一直不怎么喜欢小孩。)

 

4. not be somebody's type: if someone is not your type, they are not the kind of person you usually like or enjoy being with

例:

Rob isn't her type at all.(罗博不是她的菜。)

"What do you think of Michael?"  "He looks a bit rough - he's not really my type."-你觉得迈克尔怎么样? -他看起来有点凶,我不怎么喜欢他。)

 

5. not be somebody's (kind of) thing: to not be the kind of thing that you enjoy - use this about activities, films, books etc.

备注:英式英语中常作''not be somebody's cup of tea''

例:

Tennis is not my thing.(我不喜欢网球。)

Horror films aren't really my cup of tea.(我不怎么喜欢恐怖电影。)

 

6. not be to your taste/liking: use this to say that something is not the type of thing that you like or that you think is good

例:

It seems that the music wasn't exactly to his taste.(这音乐好像不是他的菜。)

The food wasn't really to my liking - it all tasted rather salty.(这些菜我都不怎么喜欢,都太咸了。)

 

7. have no time for: to dislike a person, their attitude, or their behavior and have no respect for them

例:

He has no time for people who talk too much.(他不喜欢话多的人。)

I've no time for that kind of attitude.(我不喜欢那种态度。)

My father had no time for complainers.(我爸爸不喜欢爱抱怨的人。)

He has no time for players who aren't completely dedicated.(他不喜欢不努力的选手。)

 

8. not take kindly to: to be unwilling to accept a particular situation, suggestion, or type of behavior, because you think it is annoying

例:

She doesn't take kindly to criticism.(她不喜欢被批评。)

Nancy doesn't take kindly to being corrected.(南希不喜欢有人说她错。)

He didn't take very kindly to being disturbed in the middle of the night.(他不喜欢半夜有人找。)
