1. fabricate：伪造，捏造

例：

Tony was accused of fabricating boss’s signature and document.

托尼被指控伪造老板签名和文件。

The story was fabricated, but kids thought it true.

这个故事是捏造出来的，但是孩子们就认为那是真的。

She will kill you if she knows that you fabricate a rumor.

如果让她知道是你捏造了谣言，她会杀了你的。

2. Fake：捏造，假装……的样子

例：

They faked up a story about murder.

他们捏造了一个有关谋杀的故事。

The paintings faked by him were thought valuable, even though they were not the real.

尽管他伪造的画作不是真品，但是还是认为很有价值。

The story about ghost was faked up.

这个鬼故事完全是捏造的。

3. concoct：捏造，编造

例：

We have to concoct an excuse for the absence of the class.

我们必须为逃课编出一个理由了。

The accountant concocted figures to cover embezzlement.

这个会计为了掩盖挪用公款的事实而伪造了数据。

4. invent：虚构，捏造

例：

She was sure that he is a real person, not invented in a dream.

她确信确有其人，而不是梦中虚构的。

He invented an excuse to protect her.

为了保护她，他编造了一个谎言。

5. make up：编造，捏造

例：

My mother made a fairy story for my little sister.

妈妈为妹妹编造了一个神话故事。

All of that is made up to frame him.

所有的一切都是编造出来陷害他的。

Even though she knew the ghost was made up, she still felt afraid.

尽管知道鬼是编出来的，她还是很害怕。

6. trump up：伪造，捏造

例：

The magistrate trumped up a murder charge and killed the poor farmer.

县令捏造出一个谋杀罪名，除掉了那个可怜的农民。

If you are out to condemn someone, you can always trump up a charge.

欲加之罪，何患无辞。

The old lady often trumped up a ghost story to terrify kids.
