1. blame: to say or think that someone is responsible for something bad that has happened

例：

It's your idea - don't blame me if it doesn't work.（这是你的主意，到时候不顶用，别来怪我。）

Everyone wants to blame the referees when their team loses.（球队输了，大家都怨裁判不公。）

The decision to increase interest rates was widely blamed (= blamed by many people ) for the crisis.（很多人把金融危机归咎于利率提高。）

2. put/lay/place the blame on somebody: to say who you think is responsible for something bad that has happened, often unfairly or wrongly

例：

She stole the money but she's trying to put the blame on me.（她自己偷了钱，还想冤枉我。）

Farmers have laid the blame for their problems entirely on EU policies.（农民把自己的困境都归咎于欧盟政策不好。）

① the blame lies with somebody: used to say that someone is responsible for something bad

例：

In this case, the blame lay with the police.（这件案子中，错在警方。）

备注：lie解“躺下”时，过去式为“lay”；lie解“说谎”时，过去式为“lied”。

② point the finger of blame at somebody: say that someone is responsible for something bad

例：

3. say it's somebody's fault: to say that someone is responsible for something bad that has happened

备注：''say it's somebody's fault''常用在口语中。

例：

Everyone is saying it's my fault, but I had nothing to do with it.（大家都怪我，但我跟这件事一点关系都没有。）

How can you say it's my fault that you lost your job?（你丢了工作，怎么能说是我的错？）

4. accuse: to say that someone is guilty of a crime or of doing something bad

例：

They're accusing me without any proof.（他们没证据就来控告我。）

Are you accusing her of lying?（你说她说谎？）

The woman was accused of having beaten her four-year-old daughter.（这个女人被控毒打她4岁的女儿。）

Scott has been accused of first-degree murder.（斯科特被控一级谋杀罪。）

5. hold somebody responsible: to say that it is someone's fault that something bad has happened because you think it was their duty to prevent this from happening

例：

It's your decision - you can't hold me responsible if it goes wrong.（这是你的决定，将来有什么问题别找我。）

补充：类似的还有''hold somebody responsible for something''。

例：

Alex still holds his mother responsible for the divorce.（艾利克斯始终认为他母亲是他离婚的主要原因。）

hold somebody partly/largely/entirely responsible

The shipment never arrived, and we are holding the freight company entirely responsible.（货物没到，我们让货运公司负全责。）

hold somebody personally responsible (=blame one person only)

If anything happens to Tom, I'll hold you personally responsible.（如果汤姆出了什么事，我拿你是问。）

6. shoot/blame the messenger: to be angry with the person who tells you about something bad, instead of the person who caused it to happen 责怪把坏消息告诉你的那个人

备注：''messenger''原意是“送信人”。

例：

If you don't listen and instead shoot the messenger, you're not going to learn about the problems you need to deal with.（他把这个坏消息告诉你，你不听，反而责怪他，你就无法了解事情原委，自然也无法处理。）
