端午节中国三大主要节日之一，还有两个是春节和中秋节。

1.粽子的英文是: rice dumpling/rice dumplings ,包粽子就是： make rice dumplings .这是比较书面的叫法，现在慢慢大家叫的比较随意，这种官方的叫法用的人也不是很多了。

2.粽子 (tsung-tse/tzung tzu)，这种拼写和发音，更像是以前汉语的英文翻译。类似于现在的“清华大学(招生办)(Tsinghua University)”。那是已经约定俗成的了。毕竟人家已经是百年老校了，而且在世界上有已经是非常知名了。

3.粽子: zongzi，因为中国特有的食物，其实很多词是用直接翻译成英语的，因为文化背景不同。对于现在的中文词汇翻译成英文的，很多都是直接汉语拼音了。例如：饺子(Jiao Zi)，不一定要说是“dumpling”，老外都明白的。还有中国的功夫(Chinese Kongfu)，已经家喻户晓了。一般采用的翻译法就是先说拼音，再用英语简单解释：

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of three major Chinese holidays, along with the Spring and Moon Festivals. Of the three, it is possibly the oldest, dating back to the Warring States Period in 227 B.C. The festival commemorates Qu Yuan, a minister in the service of the Chu Emperor. Despairing over corruption at court, Qu threw himself into a river.

端午节与春节和中秋节并列为中国三大节日。这三个节日中，它可能是最古老的一个，可以追溯到公元前227年的战国时代。这个节日是为了纪念楚国的大夫屈原，他因为对朝廷的贪污腐败感到绝望而投河自尽。

After his death, the people of Chu crowded to the bank of the river to pay their respects to him. The fishermen sailed their boats up and down the river to look for his body. People threw into the water zongzi (pyramid-shaped glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in reed or bamboo leaves) and eggs to divert possible fish or shrimp from attacking his body. An old doctor poured a jug of reaglar wine (Chinese liquor seasoned with realgar) into the water, hoping to turn all aquatic beasts drunk. That's why people later followed the customs such as dragon boat racing, eating zongzi and drinking realgar wine on that day.

传说屈原死后，楚国百姓哀痛异常，纷纷涌到汨罗江边去凭吊屈原。渔夫们划起船只，在江上来回打捞他的真身。有位渔夫拿出为屈原准备的饭团、鸡蛋等食物，“扑通、扑通”地丢进江里，说是让鱼龙虾蟹吃饱了，就不会去咬屈大夫的身体了。人们见后纷纷仿效。一位老医师则拿来一坛雄黄酒倒进江里，说是要药晕蛟龙水兽，以免伤害屈大夫。后来为怕饭团为蛟龙所食，人们想出用楝树叶包饭，外缠彩丝，发展成棕子。
