1. be ready to go: to be ready and
eager to start doing something
例:
On Christmas Day, the kids are always up
and ready to go at 6 o'clock. (圣诞节那天,孩子们总是6点就起床,各就各位。)
If everyone's ready to go, let's get
started. (大家都准备好了,我们就开始吧。)
2. be all set: to be ready to start
doing something that you have planned to do and want to do
例:
(1)Dad got on his bike. "Are you all set?" he called.
(爸爸骑上自己的车,叫道:“你们都准备好了吗?”)
(2)The team are all set for another
comfortable victory. (全队都准备好轻轻松松再胜一场。)
(3)We were all set to start the
barbecue when it started to rain. (我们一切准备就绪正打算开始烧烤,就下雨了。)
(4)美剧《老爸老妈浪漫史》S01E08中的片段:
情境:Lily被Marshall的剑划伤,到医院就医,医生给她包扎好之后,出来对Marshall等人说:
Doctor: All set. She said she'd like
to see the knights of the poorly constructed round table?
Marshall: That's us.
大意:
医生:都处理好了。她说她要见破圆桌骑士们——
马潇:那说的是我们……
(5)起跑的指令各国各有不同。如:中文“预-备-跑!”,美式英语"Ready, set, go!",英式英语"Ready, steady, go!"。
3. be good to go: to have completed
all the necessary preparations and be ready to start doing something
备注:这是美式英语的口语用法。
例:
We just need to get you a pair of skis and
you're good to go. (再给你弄副滑雪板,就万事俱备啦!)
"Do you have all the hiking
gear?" "Yeah, I'm good to go." (-徒步的装备你都有吗? -是的,我都准备好了!)
4. gear up: to get ready or to cause
(someone) to get ready for something or to do something
例:
The team is gearing up for a comeback. (这支队伍准备好要反击了。)
There are clear signs that the governor is
geared up for a second attempt at the White House. (很明显这个州长准备好了要再度竞选总统。)
The airport was getting geared up to deal
with a heavier schedule of flights. (机场方面已经准备就绪,可以应对更多航班。)
5. in readiness:
例:
They stacked the firewood in readiness for
the evening campfire. (他们劈好柴火,准备晚上点篝火用。)
As the conflict grew worse, troops waited
in readiness at the borders. (两国冲突升级,军队在边境随时候命。)
6. do something when you are good and ready: used to tell someone who is impatient for you to do something that
you will not do it until your are ready
备注:这是口语用法。
例:
Dad says he'll come when he's good and
ready. (爸爸说,等他准备好他就会来。)
Leave me alone! I'll tell her when I'm good
and ready. (别烦我!我准备好了就会告诉她!)
7. be ripe for: to be in a suitable
condition to be ready for something, especially a positive change
例:
After the divorce I was thoroughly fed up
and ripe for a new start, so I agreed to take the job. (离婚后,我对往事彻底厌倦,准备好了重新开始,所以接下这份工作。)
The time was ripe for proposing his plan. (他呈上计划书的时机已到。)
The army was ripe for action. (军队准备就绪,可以出击。)
