“开始做某事”多种英语表达方式

大家都很清楚“开始做某事”是用''begin/start to do something''的句型,那么表示''get things started''还有没有什么近义说法呢?我们来看看。

 

1. start: to make something start happening

例:

The police have already started an investigation. (警方已经开始调查。)

The referee couldn't start the game because there were fans on the field. (有球迷在赛场内,裁判无法开赛。)

 A 'safe neighborhood' campaign has been started by local residents.(当地居民发起了一项“片区居住安全”运动。)

 

2. (let's) get this show on the road: to begin an activity or journey

备注:这是比较口语化的用法。

例:

Are you all packed and ready? Right, let's get this show on the road. (你们都打包好了吗?好!我们出发!)

We're having another meeting next week, hopefully to really get this show on the road. (我们下周还有一个会要开,希望到时候能搞定一切。)

 

3. get things moving: to make a process or event start happening, or to keep it happening

例:

Change is certainly needed and the new head teacher needs to get things moving quickly. (学校必须改革,新校长要迅速行动起来。)

Once we got things moving, the deal went through very quickly. (我们开了个好头,很快便达成协议了。)

 

4. get/start/set the ball rolling: to begin an activity or event or make sure it continues

备注:这是比较口语化的用法。

例:

Mark stood up and asked the first question to get the ball rolling. (马克站起来问了第一个问题,权当抛砖引玉。)

She tried to get the ball rolling by asking him a few questions. (她先问了他几个问题来暖场。)

To start the ball rolling, the government was asked to contribute £50,000 to the charity. (为了开个好头,大伙要求政府给慈善事业捐5万英镑。)

To set the ball rolling, you need to fill out a complaint form. (首先,您要填一张意见表。)

 

5. set (sth) in/into motion: to start a process or series of events that will continue for a long time

备注:或者作''put (sth) in/into motion''

例:

They will be taking steps to set the divorce proceeding in motion. (他们会逐步开始办离婚手续。)

The government had already set into motion a series of reforms. (政府已经开始进行一系列改革。)

The plan has been put into motion. (这项计划已经开始实施了。)

 

6. spark (off): to cause something start or happen

例:

The question sparked a debate. (这个问题引发了讨论。)

Her fifth-grade teacher sparked her interest in history. (她五年级的老师激发了她对历史的兴趣。)

The arrests sparked off a riot. (这次抓捕引发了暴动。)

The murder sparked off a wave of protests in the city. (这起谋杀案引发了全城一系列抗议活动。)

Recent freak weather conditions have sparked off renewed fears about the effects of global warming. (最近的极端天气引发了人们对全球变暖的新一轮恐慌。)

 

7. open: to begin something

例:

Let's open the bidding for this beautiful painting at $2,000. (这幅美丽的画作,$2,000起拍。)

Her most famous poem opens the new collection. (她这本新诗集里的第一篇便是她最有名的诗篇。)

He always opens his speeches with a joke. (他演讲前一般先讲个笑话。)

She opened the meeting by thanking everyone for coming. (会议开始前,她先感谢大家的到来。)

It's traditional to open baseball games with the national anthem. (按惯例,棒球赛开赛前都要唱国歌。)

Police have opened an investigation into the girl's disappearance. (警方已经开始调查该女孩的失踪案。)
