6. back somebody up : to support someone by saying that you agree with them or by giving information that shows they are right

例：

It's time to back up your words with deeds. （现在是你实践诺言（用实际行动支持你说过的话）的时候了。）

I was relying on you to back me up, why didn't you? （我全仰仗你支持我，你干嘛还反对我？）

Eventually, after my impassioned pleas, backed up by my mother, Dad agreed to let me go to the concert. （我苦苦哀求加上老妈的鼎力支持，老爸终于同意让我去看演唱会了。）

再看个《老友记》中 S01E06 的例子：

情境： Chandler 看上了一个姑娘， Rachel 鼓励他去追。看看 Chandler 有什么反应。

Rachel: Oh, come on. She's a person, you can do it!

Chandler: Oh please, could she be more out of my league? Ross, back me up here.

Ross: He could never get a woman like that in a million years.

Chandler: Thank you, buddy.

大意 ：

Rachel: 哥们，她也就是个“人”而已，你可以的！

Chandler: 得了吧，我能配得上她？罗斯，说点什么挺我一下。

Ross: 他永远永远都不可能跟这么个美女在一起。

Chandler: 谢了哥们！

7. be on somebody's side : to support one person or group against another in an argument, war etc.

例：

Why did you keep agreeing with them? I thought you were on my side. （你干嘛一直附和他们？我以为你是支持我的。）

With most of the newspapers on their side, they have a good chance of winning the election. （大部分舆论倒向他们那边，他们有很大机会赢得竞选。）

Whose side are you on, anyway? （你到底支持哪边？）

8. side with : to support one person or group against another in an argument, especially in a way that seems unfair

例：

Why do you always side with Lucy? （你为什么一直支持露西？）

They betrayed their country and sided with their enemy. （他们叛国投敌。）

side with somebody against somebody

His father sided with his mother against him. （他父亲与母亲站在同一阵线，一起反对他。）

You wouldn't expect the union to side with the employers against their own members, would you? （你总不会希望工会站在雇主这边跟自己的会员对着干吧？）

9. take sides : to support one of the two sides in an argument when it would be fairer not to support either of them

例：

I don't mind you two arguing, but don't ask me to take sides. （你们俩爱吵就吵吧，别问我站在谁那边！）

You are both my friends, so I don't want to take sides. （你们俩都是我的朋友，我不想偏向任何一边。）

10. be with : if you are with someone, you agree with what they are trying to do, and you are willing to help them

例：

We need people now for the anti-government march. Are you with us or against us? （我们现在需要人手参加反政府游行。你支持我们，还是反对我们？）

看个《老友记》中 S01E09 的例子：

情境： Rachel 和老板 Terry 讲话。

Terry: Rachel, Rachel, sweetheart. You're a terrible, terrible waitress. Really, really awful.

Rachel: Okay, I, I hear what you're saying. I'm with you . Um, but I, but I'm trying really hard.

大意：

Terry ：啊亲爱的瑞秋，你是个相当相当糟糕的服务生，太糟太糟了……

Rachel ：呃，我听到了，我也同意你的说法。但是我、我已经很努力啦。

11. be in favour of : to support a plan or suggestion because you think it is a good idea

备注： ''be in favour of'' 常见于英式英语，美式英语常作 ''be in favor of'' 。

例：

Most UN delegates are in favor of the new peace plan. （大部分联合国代表都支持这个新的和平计划。）

be in favor of doing something

Some teachers were in favor of retaining the existing system. （一些老师赞成保留现有的系统。）

be all in favor of something (=completely agree with) （备注：常用于口语中。）

I'm all in favor of people having smaller cars. （我完全赞成人们使用小排量汽车。）
