这次我们来看看“惹麻烦”、“捣乱”、“故意找茬”的英文怎么说。

1. cause/create problems: to cause a problem, even if you do not intend to

例:

After a while, John started causing problems in class. (过了一会儿,约翰就开始在班上捣乱。)

They have two good backs who can cause problems for our team's defense. (他们队有两个很厉害的后卫,会给我们后防制造麻烦。)

When he drinks too much, he causes problems. (他一喝多就闹事。)

 

2. cause/make/spell trouble: to deliberately cause problems, especially by starting arguments or fights

例:

Don't give him another drink, or he'll start causing trouble. (别让他再喝了,他再喝就要闯祸。)

It's not just gang members that cause trouble, it's middle- and upper-class kids too. (不只是帮派分子会惹是生非,中产阶级、上流社会的孩子们也会。)

Some of the demonstrators were determined to make trouble, whatever the police did. (不论警察怎么镇压,有些示威者就是要闹事。)

gangs looking to make trouble (好像要闹事的一伙人)

This decision could spell trouble for all of us. (这个决定会给我们大家惹麻烦。)

补充troublemaker: n. someone who deliberately causes problems or arguments

例:

a handful of troublemakers who are damaging the club's reputation (一小撮破坏俱乐部声誉的闹事者)

The violence was started by a small group of troublemakers. (这次暴力事件是由几个闹事者引起的。)

He had the reputation of being a troublemaker in high school. (他念高中时是个出了名的捣蛋鬼。)

 

3. make life difficult: to deliberately cause problems and make it difficult for someone to do something, for example in order to punish them or persuade them to do something

例:

They can't actually stop us, but they could make life difficult. (他们阻止不了我们,但是他们可以给我们捣乱。)

Some employers have made life difficult for employees who need time off for extended illnesses. (员工要延长病假的时候,有些老板会故意刁难他们。)

Why make the life difficult for yourself? (为什么要跟自己过不去?)

 

4. give somebody a hard time: to deliberately treat someone badly and cause trouble for them, for example by criticizing them, complaining, or asking them a lot of difficult questions

备注:''give somebody a hard time''是非正式的说法。

例:

When I first came here everyone gave me a really hard time, because I was the first woman to run a department. (我刚来的时候,谁对我都没好脸色,因为我是这儿的第一个女部门经理。)

My mother gave me a really hard time about Tom. She couldn't stand him. (我妈因为汤姆而处处跟我过不去,她不喜欢汤姆。)

They gave me a hard time about quitting the team. (我要退队,他们没给我好脸色。)

 

5. rock the boat: to cause problems by changing or trying to change a situation that other people do not want to change

备注:''rock the boat''是非正式的说法。

例:

We have a pretty good life here. Why rock the boat? (我们在这儿过得很好,你们为什么来捣乱?)

The system isn't perfect, but it's been this way for a long time and nobody wants to rock the boat. (这个系统不完美,但是已经用了好久了,没人想费那个劲儿换别的系统。)
