要是你在国外不巧生病进医院,想告诉医生说你想吐或呕吐不止,可却不知道英语里“呕吐”怎么说,那就麻烦了。这一讲我们来看看英语里“呕吐”的各种说法。
(一)想吐:
1. feel sick: to have the feeling
that you are going to vomit 有恶心想吐的感觉
备注:也可作''feel
sick to the stomach''。
例:
He developed a severe headache and felt
very sick. (他头痛欲吐。)
I had no urge to smoke when I was pregnant.
It made me feel sick to my stomach. (我怀孕的时候闻不得烟味,一闻就想吐。)
2. feel nauseous: to have the sick
feeling you get in your stomach and head when you think you are going to vomit
例:
He felt nauseous as soon as the boat started
to move. (船一动他就想吐。)
3. gag: if you gag, your throat
moves as though you are going to vomit, especially because you have tasted or
smelled something very unpleasant 由于吃到或者闻到特别恶心的味道而想吐
例:
I could hardly eat the fish without
gagging. (我一吃这种鱼就想吐。)
gag at/on
He took a sip of the medicine and gagged at
the vile taste. (他喝了一口药,这恶心的味道让他想吐。)
Joe gagged on his first cigarette,
red-faced and choking. (乔第一次抽烟时脸都呛红了,差点吐了。)
4. retch/heave: if you retch or
heave, your stomach muscles move in an uncontrollable way as though you are
going to vomit 反胃,想吐
例:
He was doubled over with pain, gasping and
retching as if his insides were on fire. (他痛得弯下腰,大口喘气,胃里翻腾,好像内脏都着了火一样。)
The stench from the bed was enough to make
Detective White heave. (床上传来的臭味足以让怀特侦探反胃了。)
(二)呕吐:
5. throw up: bring food or drink up
from your stomach out through your mouth because you are ill, drunk, shocked
etc. 因生病、醉酒或情绪不适而呕吐
备注:英式英语中常作''be sick''。
例:
She said she felt sick and then threw up. (她说她有点恶心想吐,然后就吐了。)
Just thinking about it makes me want to
throw up. (光想想,我就要吐了。)
The dog's been sick all over the carpet. (狗吐得满地毯都是。)

I tried giving him some cool, boiled water,
but he even threw that up. (我想给他喂点凉开水,但他连白开水都吐出来了。)
6. vomit: to bring food or drink up
from your stomach out through your mouth - used especially in medical contexts (医学用语)呕吐
例:
If she starts vomiting, contact the doctor
immediately. (她要是吐了,马上叫医生。)
7. puke: to bring food or drink up
from your stomach out through your mouth because you are ill, drunk etc. 与throw up意思相似
备注:''puke''一般用于口语中,美式口语中还常用''barf''。
例:
It smells like someone puked here. (这味道,好像有人吐了。)
The movie was so disgusting that it made me
want to barf. (这电影太恶心,我都要吐了。)
If he pukes, one of you guys cleans it up. (他要是吐了,你们俩抽一个人出来做卫生。)
8. bring up: to bring food or drink
up from your stomach out through your mouth, especially just after eating or
drinking 在吃进/喝进东西后而吐出
例:
It is quite normal for your baby to bring
up some milk after feeding. (孩子吃完奶吐点奶是很正常的事。)
''Did you try giving him some fish?''
''Yes, but he brought it all up again.'' (-你喂他吃鱼了? -是啊,但是他又全吐了。)
9. regurgitate: if birds or animals
regurgitate something they have just eaten, they bring it up through their
mouth, for example in order to feed it to their young 动物吐哺
例:
Some birds regurgitate food to feed their
young. (一些鸟类先把食物嚼碎了再吐出来喂给幼鸟吃。)
