“突然间”英语怎么说?

除了''suddenly'',英语还能怎么表达“突然间”这个意思?

 

1. all of a sudden: suddenly - use this especially in stories or descriptions of past events常用于讲故事或者描述过去的事情

例:

We waited and waited, then all of a sudden we saw a sail on the horizon.(我们等啊等,突然间,我们看到海天交接处驶来一条船。)

 

2. out of the blue: if something happens out of the blue, you are not expecting it at all, and you are very surprised by it

例:

Out of the blue, he asked me to come with him to Europe.(他突然邀请我跟他一起去欧洲。)

One evening, Angela phoned me out of the blue and said she was in some kind of trouble.(有天晚上,安杰拉突然打电话跟我说她遇到些麻烦。)

Then, out of the blue, he sold his house and left the country.(然后,他突然卖了房子出国了。)

She told me, out of the blue, that she was going to live in New York.(突然间,她说要搬到纽约去。)

Do you remember Jane? Well, she phoned me yesterday, completely out of the blue.(你记得简吗?她昨天突然打电话给我。)

 

3. abruptly: if something ends or if someone moves or speaks abruptly, they do it suddenly and unexpectedly

例:

The party was stopped abruptly when the police turned up.(警察一出现,派对戛然而止。)

She turned abruptly and went back inside.(她突然转身进屋。)

"You may leave now,'' he said, abruptly.(他突然说:“你可以走了。”)

 

4. without warning: if something bad or dangerous happens without warning, it happens suddenly and there was no sign that it was going to happen

例:

Without warning, tears began to roll down his cheeks.(他突然就哭了。)

At five to four he went into convulsions. It happened suddenly and without warning.3:55时他开始抽搐,突然就这样,毫无预兆。)

 

5. on the spur of the moment: if you do something on the spur of the moment, you suddenly decide to do something that you had not planned to do

例:

I bought the car on the spur of the moment.(我心血来潮买了这辆车。)

On the spur of the moment, we decided to head north instead of east that day.(那天,我们临时决定不向东走,而向北走。)

We decided on the spur of the moment to go to the beach.(我们临时决定去海边。)

备注:''on the spur of the moment''是状语,如果要做形容词,得用''spur-of-the-moment''

例:

They made a spur-of-the-moment decision to go to the movies.(他们心血来潮决定去看电影。)

 

6. from out of nowhere: if you say that someone does something or something appears from out of nowhere, it happens suddenly so that you are surprised or shocked

备注:或者作''out of nowhere'', ''from nowhere''

例:

From out of nowhere he asked me to marry him.(他突然向我求婚。)

I was doing 80 miles per hour when from out of nowhere this cop on a motorcycle pulled me over.(骑警在我车速每小时80英里时突然把我拦下来了。)

From out of nowhere he asked her if she was having an affair.(他突然问她,她是不是有第三者。)

The car came out of nowhere!(这车突然冲出来!)

Suddenly, out of nowhere, she offered me the job.(她突然间就聘用我了。)

She rose to fame out of nowhere.(她一夜成名。)

The horse came from nowhere to win the race. (这匹马不知道从哪儿冒出来,居然赢得了比赛。)
