英语里怎么形容“时髦、流行”?

1. fashionable: clothes, styles, places or activities that are fashionable are popular at the present time, but will probably only be popular for a short time

例:

The store sells fashionable clothes at prices you can afford.(这家店卖的衣服又时髦价格又合适。)

 

2. cool: said to show approval of something that is fashionable, interesting, or attractive - used especially by young people

备注:''cool''常用于口语中。

例:

He was wearing these really cool sunglasses.(他的太阳镜很酷。)

Many young people start smoking because they think it looks cool.(很多年轻人觉得抽烟的样子很酷才开始抽烟。)

 

3. hot: very fashionable now

备注:''hot''是非正式的用法。

例:

one of the hot young writers of the decade(近十年来炙手可热的青年作家之一)

They're supposed to be the hottest thing since the Beatles.(他们应该是继披头士乐队之后最流行的乐队了。)

 

4. trendy: very fashionable, often for a short time - used especially humorously or to show disapproval

备注:''trendy''是非正式的用法。

例:

a trendy street market in the center of Paris(巴黎市中心的潮流集市)

Delgado predicts that blonde hair will become trendy this summer.(德尔加多预计今年夏天会流行金色头发。)

Trendy bars and restaurants are opening and inexpensive apartments in the area are getting hard to find.(这一区开了很多潮流酒吧和餐厅,租金便宜的公寓越来越难找了。)

 

5. stylish: well designed, and attractive in a fashionable way

例:

She was wearing a stylish black dress.(她穿着一条很时髦的黑色裙子。)

stylish modern furniture(时髦的现代家具)

 

6. chic: very fashionable in an expensive way, and showing a lot of good judgment about good style

例:

They live in a chic apartment overlooking the Seine.(他们的公寓时尚而有品位,可以俯瞰塞纳河。)

a chic restaurant in Boston(波士顿的一家时尚而有品位餐厅)

The east side of the city has become very chic in the past few years.(过去这些年里,城东变得高档时髦起来。)

 

7. cult: fashionable and only known about by a small group of people - use this especially about things or people that later become very famous

例:

Alex Garland's cult novel 'The Beach' was later made into a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio.(艾力克斯·嘉兰的流行小说《迷离沙滩》后来被拍成电影,由莱昂纳多·迪卡普里奥主演。

1960s cult band The Velvet Underground(上世纪60年代的流行乐队——地下丝绒乐队)

 

8. in: fashionable at the present time

备注:''in''是非正式的用法,它的反义词''out''(老土),也是日常口语中经常用的。

例:

Purple seems to be in this year.(紫色今年好像很流行。)

be the in place

Gstaad is the in place to go skiing in winter.(冬天很流行去格斯塔德滑雪。)

the in thing to do

Cycling to work has become the in thing to do.(现在流行骑自行车去上班。)

 

9. hip: doing things or done according to the latest fashion

备注:''hip''是非正式的用法。

例:

The South Side is becoming a really hip place to live.(最近南区成了新兴的住宅区。)

I hate old people who dress like teenagers and think they're hip.(我很讨厌老年人打扮成十几岁人的样子还以为自己很时髦。)

 

10. happening: fashionable and exciting

备注:''happening''是非正式的用法。

例:

In four to five years, this will be a happening film festival.(在未来四五年间,这个电影节都算是时髦的了。)

The town's OK, but not what you'd call a happening place.(这个小镇算是还行,但称不上是潮流前线。)
