英语里还能怎么形容某物“对……有用”,“对……有利”?我们接着来看看。

1. beneficial : actions, experiences, changes etc. that are beneficial help to improve someone's situation or give them an advantage

例:

Some insects are harmful but others are beneficial. (有些昆虫有害,有些昆虫有益。)

beneficial to

Cycling is highly beneficial to health and the environment. (循环利用对环境和健康都很有好处。)

Recent studies show that moderate amounts of alcohol are beneficial to health. (最近研究表明适量饮酒有利于身体健康。)

beneficial effect/impact/result

a drug that has a beneficial effect on the immune system (有利于提高免疫力的药物)

Regular exercise has many beneficial health effects. (定期锻炼有利于身体健康。)

 

2. useful : something that is useful makes it easier for you to do something

例:

a useful thing to know (知道了这件事很有用)

He gave me some useful advice. (他给我提了一些有用的建议。)

The bank gave us a lot of useful advice about starting our own business. (我们想自己创业,银行给我们提了很多有用的建议。)

 

3. of use : if someone or something is of use, they are useful for you when you are doing something

例:

I hope you'll find the book of use. (希望你觉得这本书有用,对你有帮助。)

 

4. handy : useful - used especially about something that is convenient and easy to use

备注: ''handy'' 是非正式的用法。

例:

a handy little booklet (一本有用的小册子)

The book is full of handy hints. (这本书上有很多有用的线索。)

I always keep old jars - you never know when they might come in handy (= be useful ). (旧罐子我从不扔掉,没准什么时候能用上。)

Take your swimming trunks with you - they might come in handy. (带上泳裤,可能会用得上。)

 

5. worthwhile : if doing something is worthwhile, it is useful for you and you benefit from doing it :

例:

a worthwhile experience (一段有用的经历)

The training was certainly worthwhile. (这个培训非常有用,值得参加。)

 

6. be good for (doing) something : to be suitable and useful for a particular job or purpose

备注: ''be good for (doing) something'' 常用于口语中。

例:

The table does take up a lot of space, but it's good for parties. (这张桌子确实占了很大空间,但是在派对上很好用。)

The big jars are good for storing pasta. (这种大罐子用来装意大利面很好。)

 

7. can't do/manage without : use this about someone or something that is so useful that it would be very difficult to do something without them 形容某物非常有用,没它不行

备注: ''can't do/manage without'' 常用于口语中。

例:

How do you manage without a washing machine? (你怎么能不用洗衣机?)

Of course we all have concerns about the environment but you can't do without a car out here in the countryside with no public transport. (毫无疑问,我们都很关心环保,但是在这不通公车的乡间,没有私家车真的不行。)

Top TV chef Billy Williams says he couldn't manage without his food processor: "It cuts down preparation time by about half and saves you all those fiddly tasks." (比利·威廉姆斯是经常在电视上教做菜的顶级厨师,他说,自己少了搅拌机就做不了菜了。他的原话是这样的:“用搅拌机,可以减少一半的准备时间,不用干那些繁琐的活儿。”)
