1. copy: to do the same things that
someone else does, especially in order to look like them or be like them
例:
Children learn swearing from copying their

Martin often claimed he copied Bing

2. ape: to imitate someone's
behavior, in a way that other people think is stupid or silly

His music attempts to ape classical styles,

3. follow the crowd/go (along) with the crowd: to do the same as the rest of a group of people because you have
not really thought about what you want or because you do not want to disagree
with what most people think
例:
That experience taught me never to follow

It's hard, as an investor, to resist the
urge to go along with the crowd, but that isn't where the money is. (投资者很难做到不跟风,但是如果跟风,就赚不到钱了。)
4. jump on the bandwagon: to do the
same as a lot of other people are doing because you think there will be some
advantage for you or because it is fashionable

5. do what somebody does: to do the
same things as someone else, especially in order to learn from them

Just watch and do what I do. It's pretty

6. follow somebody's example: to
copy what someone else has done because you think that their behavior or
actions were a good idea
例:
Brian persuaded his brothers to follow his
example and join the navy. (布莱恩劝他弟弟学自己的榜样,也去参军。)
Following the example of Nixon, a
politician he greatly admired, he decided to try to make himself more appealing
to voters. (他一向崇拜尼克松,他决定像尼克松一样赢得更多选民的青睐。)
7. follow in somebody's footsteps:
to do the same job or to work or live in the same way as someone else before
you, especially someone in your family
例:
My father was always disappointed that Joey
didn't follow in his footsteps and take over the farm. (乔伊没有子承父业接手农场,令我爸很失望。)
He is a doctor and expects his son to
follow in his footsteps. (他是医生,希望他儿子子承父业也当医生。)
8. follow suit/follow somebody's lead: to do what someone else has just done because it seems the correct
thing to do
例:
We're hoping that Europe will follow the
US's lead and ban all use of these poisonous gases. (我们希望欧洲可以效仿美国,禁止使用这些有毒气体。)
Other countries are likely to follow the
U.S.'s lead. (其他国家可能会效仿美国。)
