英语中如何表达“盘问”

1. question: to ask someone a lot of questions, in order to get information or find out what they think

例:

We all wondered where she got the money, but no one dared question her. (我们都想知道她的钱是哪来的,就是没人敢去问她。)

question somebody closely (=carefully, asking a lot of difficult questions)

The interviewer questioned Miss White closely about her computer experience. (面试官细细询问了怀特小姐的计算机资历。)

 

2. fire/shoot questions at: to ask someone a lot of questions very quickly in order to confuse them or make them admit to something

例:

The lawyer fired questions at me so quickly I didn't have time to think. (律师连珠炮似的向我发问,我根本没时间思考。)

The teacher kept shooting questions at the frightened girls until they confessed everything. (这些女孩子都吓坏了,老师不停地盘问,直到她们招认一切。)

 

3. grill: to ask someone a lot of difficult questions in order to make them explain their actions, plans, or opinions

备注:英式英语中常用''give somebody a grilling''''grill''原意是“烧烤”。

例:

I stood in the hall and listened as the interviewers grilled the next candidate. (我站在大厅里,听着面试官们询问下一个面试者。)

Her teacher gave her a real grilling about why she'd missed so many classes. (老师细细询问她为什么缺了这么多课。)

grill somebody about/on something

Max started grilling me on why I'd been spending so much time alone. (马克思开始连珠炮似的问我为什么不合群。)

 

4. give somebody the third degree: to ask someone a lot of difficult questions in order to make them explain their actions, plans, or opinions

备注:''give somebody the third degree''常用于非正式场合。

例:

I was just out with friends—you don't have to give me the third degree. (我就是跟朋友出去了一趟,你不用对我问东问西的。)

Whenever one of my boyfriends came to the house, Dad would give him the third degree. (我的历任男友一来我家,我爸就会问东问西。)

 

5. pump somebody for: to ask someone a lot of questions about a particular subject or event in order to get as much information as possible

例:

pump somebody for information/details

Viktor sat with me and pumped me for information about hockey teams. (维克多坐在我身边,向我问了很多有关冰球队的事。)

He wants to pump Jody for the details of some job her company is advertising. (他想向周迪打听有关她公司要招人的细节。)

 

6. quiz: to ask someone a lot of questions, especially because you want to find out what they have been doing, and often in a way that annoys them

例:

When Stan eventually came home from the party, his wife quizzed him for hours. (斯坦从派对上回到家,他老婆盘问了他好几个小时。)

quiz somebody about/on something

My parents never stop quizzing me about where I go at night. (我爸妈一直盘问我晚上去哪。)

Reporters quizzed the President on tax policy in Central America. (记者们向总统提了一系列有关中美洲税务政策的问题。)

 

7. pick somebody's brains: to ask someone for information about something because you think they know more about it than you

例:

You know all about tax law—can I pick your brains for a minute? (你很了解税务法,我能不能占用你一点时间问你一些问题?)

The workshop is designed so that new managers can pick the brains of managers with more experience. (新任经理可以在这个研讨会上向资深经理讨教。)
