1. glare: to look angrily at someone

例:

He sat there in silence, glaring angrily. (他默默坐着,怒目圆睁。)

glare at

"You can go if you want, but I'm staying," Denise said glaring at him. (丹尼斯瞪着他说:“你想走就走吧,我留下!”)

Claude put down his fork and glared at us. (克劳德放下刀叉,瞪着我们。)

glare toward/across/around etc.

Roger glared angrily at her across the dinner table. (罗杰坐在餐桌的另一边怒视着她。)

 

2. look daggers at: to look at someone very angrily, as if you would like to hurt them

备注:''look daggers at''常用于英式英语中。''dagger''的原意是“匕首”。

例:

When I asked him what he'd done with the money he just looked daggers at me and refused to speak. (我问他把钱花在哪了,他什么也没说,就瞪着我不说话。)

Julie must have heard you talking about her, because she was looking daggers at you from the next table. (朱莉肯定知道你怎么说她了,因为她就坐在隔壁桌狠狠瞪着你呢。)

 

3. give somebody a dirty look: to quickly look at someone angrily to show that you are angry with them, especially in a situation when you cannot tell them that you are angry

备注:英式英语中也常用''give somebody a black/filthy look''

例:

My aunt's friends always used to give me dirty looks when I brought my kids over, because they knew I wasn't married. (我把孩子们带到婶婶家的时候,婶婶的朋友总是用鄙夷的目光瞪着我,因为我未婚先有子。)

Frank turned round and gave me a really dirty look. (弗兰克转过身来,狠狠瞪了我一眼。)

I don't know what I did to upset her, but she gave me a really filthy look when I walked into the meeting. (我走进会场的时候,她狠狠地瞪了我一眼,我不知道自己什么地方得罪了她。)

 

4. scowl: to look at someone in an angry way, or make an angry, unhappy expression with your face

例:

Jane scowled and told them to get out. (简瞪着他们,叫他们出去。)

"What do you want?" said the old man, scowling. (老人怒目圆睁,“你到底想干嘛?”)

She scowled in response to his questions. (她怒目相视,当做对他的回答。)

What are you scowling at me for? You asked me to wake you up. (你瞪我干什么?你之前自己叫我叫醒你的!)

 

5. frown: to look at someone or something with an annoyed, confused, or disapproving expression on your face

例:

Mr White frowned and pursed his lips, but said nothing. (怀特先生皱着眉头撇着嘴,什么也没说。)

The teacher frowned at him and asked him to sit down. (老师皱眉瞪了他一眼让他坐下。)

When I got back to the table, he was frowning at the check. (我回到桌边的时候,他正皱着眉头看小票。)

Mrs Gold frowned at the children, who were getting mud all over their clothes. (高德太太皱眉看着满身泥泞的孩子们。)

 

6. if looks could kill: use this when you are telling someone how another person looked at you in a very angry way, and you found this funny or frightening

例:

You should have seen her face when she realized what I'd done—if looks could kill! (她发现我所作所为的时候,那表情好像要杀人,你真该看看她当时那个表情!)
