自怨自艾:
1. feel sorry for yourself: to spend
a lot of time thinking about how unlucky you are or how unfairly you have been
treated, in a way that annoys other people

例:
Stop blaming other people and feeling sorry
for yourself. (别一直责怪他人,也别一直自怨自艾的了。)
Andy was drinking too much again, and
feeling sorry for himself. (安迪又喝高了,开始自怨自艾。)
2. mope: to feel unhappy because of
something bad that has happened, and to not be interested in doing anything, in
a way that other people think is not reasonable
例:
Don't lie there moping on a lovely morning
like this! (今天天气多好,别大清早的就躺在那自怨自艾的!)
Don't just lie there moping, waiting for
the phone to ring. (别光躺在那儿自怨自艾地干等电话。)
mope around/about (=go around a place moping)
He's not even attempting to look for a job
- he just mopes around the house all day. (他连工作都不想找,整天就在家里自怨自艾。)
She spends her days moping around the house.
(她整天就在家里闷闷不乐。)
Stephen didn't expect her to mope about

3. wallow in:
wallow in self-pity/despair/misery etc.: to keep thinking about how unhappy you are, in a way that makes
other people think that you are actually enjoying feeling sorry for yourself
and do not want to feel happier
例:
She told herself that she must try and
learn from his criticism, rather than wallowing in self-pity. (她告诫自己一定要振作、听取他的批评意见,不要意志消沉自怨自艾。)
He'd been feeling sorry for himself,
wallowing in self-pity. (他一直自怨自艾的。)
It's no good wallowing in misery. You just
have to get out there and find another job. (一直沉浸在痛苦中对你没好处,你得走出去接触社会,再找一份工作。)
4. self-pity: the feeling you have
when you feel sorry for yourself, because you think that you have been very
unlucky or that you have been treated unfairly
例:
If you feel a wave of self-pity coming on,
go and talk about it with friends. (如果你感觉到又开始自怜了,就跟朋友聊聊天,纾解一下。)
Jenny told her story without any of the
self-pity that I thought I would feel after such an ordeal. (珍妮叙述自己故事的时候,没有一点自怜的情绪,我要是遭受了这样的变故,肯定会觉得自己很可怜。)

1. get somebody down: to gradually
make someone feel unhappy and tired over a period of time

The endless rain was beginning to get him

2. be a downer: if something is a
downer , it makes you feel unhappy, especially because it is not good or
successful

I thought the movie was going to be a total
