这一节讲的是关于“（顺路）去看望某人”、“（顺路）去某地”、“只做短暂停留”的一些表达法。

1. drop in/drop by : to visit someone for a short time, especially when they are not expecting you

备注： ''drop in/drop by'' 常用于口语中。

例：

Lizzie said she'd drop in later to let us know what the arrangements are for tonight. （利兹说她稍后会过来，告诉我们今晚怎么安排。）

Kate dropped by this morning. （凯特早上来过了。）

drop in to see somebody

I'll drop in to see you later. （我稍后会去看你。）

2. pop in : to visit someone for a very short time

备注： ''pop in'' 常用于英式英语非正式的场合。

例：

I might be able to pop in for about half an hour. （我可能可以过来呆半个小时。）

Just pop in when you've got a minute and I'll show you our holiday photographs. （有时间就过来一下，我给你看假期拍的照片。）

I popped in to see Kate on my way home. （我回家路上顺路去看了凯特。）

3. call round : to visit someone who lives near you for a short time

例：

Fred calls round sometimes on his way to the sports center. （有时候，弗莱德去体育中心的路上会顺路过来。）

4. stop by : to visit a person for a short time while you are on your way to somewhere else

备注：美式英语中还可以用 ''stop in'' 。

例：

I just stopped in to say goodbye before I go on vacation. （我要去度假了，顺路过来跟你道别一下。）

I need to stop in at the library. （我得顺道去下图书馆。）

Stop by for a drink on your way home from work. （下班路上顺路去喝一杯吧。）

He stopped by the store on his way home. （他下班路上顺便去买了东西。）

5. look in on : to make a short visit to someone, while you are on your way somewhere, especially if they are ill or need help

例：

I promised to look in on Dad and see if he's feeling better. （我说过我会顺路去看看爸爸，看他病好点没。）

Tom will look in on you later to see if you need anything. （稍后汤姆会顺路来看看你有没有缺什么。）

6. call on/call in on : to visit someone for a short time

备注： ''call on'' 常用于英式英语中。

例：

Why don't you call on Matt on your way back from work and see how he is? （你下班路上何不顺路去马特那儿，看看他怎么样了。）

One of our salesmen would be delighted to call in on you in your own home. （我们的销售人员能来你家真是太高兴了。）

7. call in : to visit a person or place for a short time while you are on your way to somewhere else

备注： ''call in'' 常用于英式英语中，美式英语中常用 ''come by'' 。

例：

Why don't you call in on your way up north? （你北上时何不顺便过来？）

call in on somebody

I called in on Sally yesterday. （我昨天顺道去看了莎莉。）

He said he'd come by later. （他说他待会儿会过来。）

Come by on Saturday and we'll have a drink together. （周六顺路过来，我们一起喝一杯。）

I'll come by the house and get my stuff later, OK? （我待会过来拿我寄存的东西，好吗？）

《老友记》 S02E07 对话：

Ross: Oh, Monica, I figured I'd come by tomorrow morning and pick up Fluffy's old cat toy, OK?

（我想我明早顺道过来拿 Fluffy 旧猫玩具好吗？）

8. stop off : to make a short visit to a place during a journey

例：

We'll stop off and see you on our way back. （我们回去的路上可以顺道去看看你。）

stop off in/at

He stopped off in Paris for a couple of days. （他顺道去巴黎呆了几天。）
