英文中的“做饭”有几种说法?

1. cook: to prepare food or a meal by heating it, boiling it, frying it etc.

备注:''cook''一般指“以加热的方式烹煮食物”。

例:

I'm just too tired to cook after work. (上了一天班,我实在太累了做不了饭。)

Prick the potatoes with a fork before cooking them. (煮土豆前,先用叉子把土豆戳几个洞。)

cook lunch/supper/a meal etc.

I usually cook a big meal on Sundays. (我周日通常会做大餐。)

cook (something) for somebody (=cook a meal for someone)

The last time she cooked a meal for us we really enjoyed it. (她上次为我们做的饭菜,我们都非常喜欢。)

 

2. make: to make a meal or dish or type of food, either by cooking it or by preparing it in some other way

备注:''make''可以指“加热式的烹煮食物”,也可以指“非加热式的烹煮食物”。

例:

My mother used to make delicious strawberry jam. (我妈妈做的草莓酱很好吃。)

I think I'll make fish pie for supper. (我晚餐要做鱼肉派吃。)

I'll make the salad if you'll make the pasta. (你要是做意面,我就去做沙拉。)

make lunch/dinner/supper etc.

When I got home, Martin was in the kitchen making lunch. (我们到家时,马丁正在厨房做午饭。)

make somebody something

I'll make you some sandwiches to take with you. (我做几个三明治给你带着吃。)

 

3. fix: to make a meal or dish - use this about meals you make quickly, not about big, formal meals

备注:''fix''用法跟''make''类似,可以指“加热式的烹煮食物”,也可以指“非加热式的烹煮食物”。但''fix''做的东西很随意很简单,常用于美式英语中。

例:

fix breakfast/lunch/dinner etc

I have to fix lunch now. (我要去做午饭了。)

fix somebody something

If you're hungry, I can fix you some scrambled eggs. (你要是饿了,我给你摊几个鸡蛋吃。)

 

4. prepare: to make a meal, especially something that needs time, effort, or skill

备注:''prepare''常用于正式场合,指做的菜很复杂、有难度。

例:

Prepare a vinaigrette dressing with olive oil, white wine vinegar, and mustard. (用橄榄油、白葡萄酒醋、芥末调成沙拉酱。)

Some French dishes take hours to prepare. (有几道法国菜做起来很费时,要好几个小时。)

Mrs White prepared a delicious meal for them. (怀特太太做了一桌好菜招待他们。)

Prepare the sauce while the pasta is cooking. (趁着意面在锅里煮的工夫,把酱料做好。)

When we got home, she was busy preparing dinner. (我们到家时,她正忙着准备晚饭呢。)

A lot of work is involved in preparing shrimp. (收拾虾很费工夫。)

 

5. get: to cook or prepare a meal

备注:"get"常用于英式英语的口语中。

例:

Sit down and let me get dinner. (你坐下,我去做饭。)

Joey was downstairs getting the kids their breakfast. (乔伊在楼下给孩子们做早点。)

 

6. rustle up: to make a meal quickly using whatever food you have available

备注:"rustle up"常用于非正式的场合。

例:

She managed to rustle up a delicious meal with just a little salad and some eggs. (她就用了点沙拉,外加几个蛋,就整出一顿美食。)

rustle something up

"I don't think there's any food in the house.'' "Don't worry, I'm sure we can rustle something up.''

-我想家里可能没吃的了。  -别急,我们肯定能倒腾出点东西来吃。)

I'll rustle up a couple of steaks on the barbecue. (我要在篝火上烤几块牛排。)

 

7. do: to make a particular kind of food

备注:''do''的这个用法常用于口语中。

例:

do something

I was thinking of doing fish tonight. (我想今晚要不做鱼吃吧。)

do somebody something

I could do you an omelet. (我可以给你做个煎蛋卷。)

 

8. put something on:

例:

put the dinner/potatoes/vegetables etc. on: to start cooking something

Can we put the dinner on? I'm starved. (能开始做饭了吗?我快饿死了。)

They'll be here soon. You'd better put the steaks on. (他们很快就会到了,最好现在就开始做牛排。)

 

9. be on: if food is on , it is being cooked

例:

The soup is on, so dinner will be ready in about twenty minutes. (已经在煮汤了,约20分钟后,晚餐就会做好。)

Okay, the chicken is on. What can I do now? (好的,鸡肉做上了,现在我还要做什么?)
